When you have a plumbing issue at your house, you do not want to wait to get it repaired. Most problems are relatively easy for a professional to fix, but if you delay the process, then you may need to pay a greater amount for more extensive services. You may be able to solve simple problems, such as a clog, but for anything that requires more than drain cleaner and a plunger, you need to call in the professionals.

1. Burst Pipes

A number of things can cause your home’s pipes to burst. Cold weather can cause the water inside the pipes to freeze and crack the exterior surface. Additionally, tree roots can grow into the pipes and damage them. A burst pipe will result in significant flooding in or around your property. In addition to cleaning up the mess, you will probably need to get the pipes themselves completely replaced. It is the only way to ensure another burst does not happen again anytime soon.

2. Sewer System Backup

Your property should have a septic tank where all the wastewater goes. However, you want to get your septic tank cleaned. The frequency which you should get the tank cleaned will depend on how big it is, but most households will need to clean it once every three or four years. Without these regular cleanings, the septic tank may flood back into the house. Blackwater, which contains various bacteria and contaminants, needs to be removed promptly by professionals.

3. Leaky Water Heater

Your home’s water heater is responsible for providing you with hot water at various faucets and the shower head. You know something is wrong with it because you will not receive any warm water, and you may notice dirty water coming out of faucets. You should visually inspect the water heater once every so often. This allows you to see if any leaks have formed. You may need to replace a single component, such as the pressure valve, or replace the entire unit.

4. Clogged Toilet

A clogged toilet may not seem like an emergency you need to call a plumber for, but there are circumstances where a professional comes in handy. In the event you cannot remove the clog with a plunger, more professional services are needed. Plungers help with clogs near the entrance. However, if the clog has formed further down, then a plunger will not do you any good. You will need professional snakes or other tools to prevent any more structural damage from happening.

5. Low Water Pressure

If you are not getting as much water out of your shower head as you are used to, then you need to take action. It could be a problem with the shower head itself. However, you should call someone to inspect the premises to see if there is a leak or other types of plumbing problems.

6. Running Toilet

A constantly running toilet may not seem like a huge issue, but these toilets can waste hundreds of gallons of water every day. One reason why this may be happening is that there is an internal leak in your house. Leaks may not always be readily apparent. This is why you need professionals to help you find them. Leaks can be hidden in various places, including under the flooring. Plumbers have the tools necessary to find them quickly.

You can expect certain plumbing fixtures in your house to break down over time. Some items may only last a few years while others should last for decades with proper maintenance. It is recommended to have a plumber come out to your house at least once a year to make sure everything still works fine.
