When we last left Nick, he had discovered that he was going to be a father. He had just graduated from high school and had begun his career with a popular sports team.
Though his relationship with Mizuki was troubled, Nick’s experience of life without a father made him eager to do his best for his child. Using the generous sign-on bonus from the sports team, Nick bought a home on the island and set about making a home.
Moving day ended in tragedy when his beloved friend Bomber passed away. It proved to be an omen of things to come.
Mizuki was clearly miserable through the entire pregnancy. This went beyond simply being uncomfortable… she clearly wanted nothing to do with the baby before it had even arrived.
It only got worse after little Phoenix was born. Mizuki completely ignored the baby. It was clear she absolutely hated children.
The constantly exhausted Nick was left to do everything when he was home and a nanny handled things when he was gone.
Meanwhile, Mizuki was out on the town every night. The night of the romance festival was the last they would ever see Mizuki. I think we can make an educated guess on where she ended up…
Little Phoenix would try his hardest to stay awake for when Daddy returned home from a hard day’s work. He treasured the little moments they had together.
Nick couldn’t help feeling like something was missing in his life, though. He longed to have a partner and to give his son a mother. It was a stroke of luck when the beautiful chef Eva moved in next door. It was… umm… love at first sight… 😛
Nick’s elation would be shortlived, though. He returned home moments too late to save his son. Phoenix had decided to be helpful and do his laundry, but someone had forgotten to clean the lint trap. Despite Nick’s pleading to the Grim Reaper, Phoenix did not rise from the flames.
