In our last chapter, we learned about the early life of Nick Bang. He grew up with a devoted single mother and an absent father.
Nick had a love of sports that carried over into his teen years. He was always playing basketball and hanging out at the gym. He excelled so much in sports that he was offered a scholarship at a prestigious private school in the city. Though it meant a huge change for their little family, Journey moved them into the city to give him his best chance at success.
It was while at the local gym that Nick met Mizuki. She and Nick bonded over their love of fitness. They often went to the gym instead of “normal” date nights. Nick definitely had his father’s tendencies to play the field, but Mizuki was a constant in his life.
Mizuki wasn’t the greatest influence, though. She was more willing to party than to do her homework. It only made Nick’s rebellious streak that much worse. It nearly cost Nick his scholarship.
Things got even tougher when their dog Fabia fell ill. The stray that had wandered into their lives not long before was always a bit delicate. They had to take her to the veterinarian almost weekly.
It was a very sad day for the whole family when Fabia was claimed by the Grim Reaper. 🙁
Journey doubled her efforts in letting Bomber know he was loved. She did her best to divide her time between supporting Nick, caring for Bomber, and continuing her writing. Her busy schedule may have been why she missed some of the cues that Nick was in trouble.
Nick was distraught over the loss of Fabia. He was stressed over his falling grades and the possibility of losing his scholarship. He sought comfort in his familiar friend. One night changed Nick’s life forever.
It was a shock when Mizuki told him the news. Frankly, with Mizuki’s history, Nick doubted the baby was his.
Nick had just turned 18. He had just been signed to a popular sports team and had his whole future ahead of him. What would a baby mean to his future? Get all the juicy details in the next chapter of Sim Stories!
