Personal Experience: Activz has a huge selection of supplements, food powders, and protein shakes. I was given the opportunity to select a couple of complimentary products to give you my take on. I chose to review the Blueberry-Acai and Mixed Veggie powders.
The first thing I tried was the Mixed Veggie Powder. I mixed a serving into a serving of mashed potatoes. That was the first time I discovered that this powder has a tendency to overpower the dish. I couldn’t taste the potato or seasonings I started with and the potatoes got a bit grainy in texture and very strongly flavored like vegetables. One full serving would have been more than enough to flavor a dish for the entire family.
As I grew more accustomed to using this powder, it did get better. I sprinkled a bit over my daily salads, mixed it into pasta sauces, and even added a touch to my fruit smoothies to get an overall produce boost. It does take some adjusting to the flavors and finding what works for you, but overall a great way to sneak a few more servings of vegetables into your busy life and your kids’ meals. Xander, my four year old, particularly enjoyed it mixed into a cheese tortellini dish (shown below). They have many single vegetable selections, so you can find something that works for your taste buds.
The Blueberry-Acai powder was much easier for me to use. My favorites were using it smoothies and yogurt. I buy plain Greek yogurt in large tubs and this was a great way to add some flavor and extra nutrients. It was a natural fit with smoothies, of course. They have a variety of different fruit flavors available, so you could create some really flavor-punched combinations.
Overall, I have mixed feelings on the powders. I like the idea and I’m finding ways to make it work. If I hadn’t been using them as part of a review, I may have given up earlier. I’m glad I didn’t, because I do like the nutritional aspect. It’s just taking me time to adjust to the flavors.
Pros: Organic, non-GMO, whole foods in a convenient to use format. Easily boost flavor and nutrition… and sneak a few veggies into your kids’ meals. Many flavors to choose from.
Cons: Flavor can be too strong. Finding the right amount to use could take some practice.
