{Review} Whoop Tee ~ Custom T-Shirts & Other Apparel (Updated Mar 20, 2014)

Details: WhoopTee wanted to create a t-shirt design and ordering process that they would enjoy: it had to be fast, easy, inexpensive, and fun. Realizing what they wanted from an online t-shirt print shop helped them to develop a system that is sure to exceed your expectations when you design your own custom t-shirts.

Personal Experience: WhoopTee provided me with the opportunity to design my own custom t-shirts in exchange for this review. I opted for the basic white Gildan cotton tee.

The design dashboard is very basic and easy to understand. Everything you could need to design the shirt is within a few clicks away.

The Dashboard

There are many options available for you to choose from including text, artwork, numbers, and words. Simply click to choose and place.

Lots of Clipart Choices

If you would like to use a custom design or logo, like I did, you simply need to upload your design and place it just as you would the clipart and other designs. You can move items around by clicking and dragging. If you want to fine-tune the placement, they have a section on the lower dashboard that allows you to click to move your selection in tiny increments to any direction. You can also resize and rotate any element you add. They also have subtle line guides to help you better visualize where the placement will be on the final shirt.

Placing Our Logo

Placing Our Logo

The design process truly was simple… almost too simple. When I zoomed the design, it only zoomed a small section of the garment. I would have liked to see my entire shirt in a larger view. I also had some concerns with how blurry my design appeared in the preview. A little reassurance that it was only that way in the design process may put fears at ease.

I really liked that you could share your design via email, Facebook, and Twitter. It allowed me the chance to get some input from friends and family before finalizing my design.

The price is about average for this type of company, and they offer the ability to buy just one shirt… something you won’t see often. I was a bit disappointed with how much extra it would cost to add text to the back. For the extended size that I wear, it was $25.85 with the front design in full color. With my domain (www.tyrneathem.com) added to the back in one color, it became $38.75. Shipping is free and I was very impressed with how quickly my shirt arrived.

Now to see the finished product! I was a bit concerned when I pulled my shirt from the package and laid it out to admire. The design seemed off from where I placed it when designing and looked a bit odd to me. I wondered if it had something to do with being a plus-size shirt.

Design Placement

Design Placement

Though I was feeling a bit disappointed, I tried it on anyway. That’s when I received a pleasant surprise. Though it appeared off when laid flat, it was placed to fit my body when on… exactly where I had designed it to lie. The colors in this picture are much more accurate than above. It better shows off how well the design printed. It is soft, flexible, vibrant, and true to the color of my logo. The print held up well through washing, as well.

Showing Off My Shirt

Overall, I was very happy with the results. The design process could use a little minor tweaking to make it truly great.

Pros: Easy to design. Lots of design choices. You can order as little as one custom tee and as many as you could need for your next big event. Bright, soft, and durable printing. Fast shipping. Prices are competitive.

Cons: Design process needs some minor fixes, like better design preview. Printing on front and back can escalate the price quickly.

Update! I have now had this tee for over six months. The general wear of the tee itself has been very good. It has withstood bi-weekly washing with no visible signs of wear… but the dragon design itself has faded considerably. The vibrant print is now faded to a very muted pastel blue. I did expect some fading, but I feel like I should have taken more care with washing this. I would still use them again for future printing projects, but I’d make more use of cold water and turning my shirt inside out.
