As I mentioned back when I reviewed Lugz’s Empire WR men’s boots for the 2014 Holiday Gift Guide, I was impressed with my husband’s experiences with his footwear from Lugz and I really needed to get myself a pair too! Rather than have me stewing in jealousy,  Lugz gave me the opportunity to review their Shifter boot for women in exchange for my honest review.

I pretty much knew I would like the visuals of the boots immediately. They are very similar in style to my husband’s Empire WR boots, but that similarity is a big part of what drew me to the Shifter boots. I loved the classic look of his boots and the shade of grey is perfect for coordinating with a variety of outfits both in and out of the workplace. I wish my work boots from my factory days had looked half as nice!

The really important thing for me is comfort. Lugz seems to have that in spades! I didn’t feel any of the usual “breaking in” stage that I typically experience with boots. They were comfortable from the first day I wore them. My foot settled right in like that comfy pair of sneakers you can’t bring yourself to part with. I was able to head out in the snow and mud to play with my son, wipe them clean with a quick swipe of a damp cloth, head out for a shopping trip, and come back to help with shoveling. The Shifters were comfortable no matter what the settings. Like with the appearance, this is definitely another feature I would have loved in my work boots. My only issue was that the toe area was a bit too wide for my foot, but with the thicker socks I typically wear in winter it wasn’t a huge issue.

I haven’t had them very long yet, but they’ve been experiencing the ups and downs, rain and snow, and mud and salt of a typical Wisconsin winter. They look as good as new except for a bit of mud and salt on the laces… and laces are easy to replace when the time comes. There is no pulling on the seams or the lace loops. The sole is looking as strong and crack-free as the day they arrived. I’m getting the same grip that keeps me upright on wet surfaces.

Overall, another great offering from Lugz. Now I know why my husband has said he will go back to Lugz when the time comes to replace his existing boots. I can now say the same!

Pros: Well-made boot with classic style. Great for everyday wear or as a comfortable work boot. Wipes clean easily and wicks away moisture.

Cons: A little big around the toe for me, but otherwise fit great.
