Pattern: Exploded Ribbing Sock by Kate Atherley
Yarn: Sock Pixie Cashmino (No longer available.)
Needles: Size 2.50 mm double-points
Made for: Originally started for another, but ended up mine.
Notes: Okay, I’ll be honest. I started these for my sister back in 2010. In the time it took me to finish them, she and I had a bit of a falling out. I’m still a bit baffled about it all, but that’s neither here nor there. The size I chose ended up being a perfect fit for my feet anyway… so I have willingly adopted them.
The pattern looks far more challenging than it actually turned out to be. All of the even rows were just knitting the knit stitches and purling the purls. The movement of stitches took some very basic cabling skills and was very intuitive. It got to where I just had to glance at the pattern to verify I was moving the stitches in the right direction.
I still love the Cashmino yarn and I wish that SockPixie was still dyeing yarn. She had a knack for beautiful color combinations. I just wish, knowing what I do now, that I had chosen a smaller needle to knit these with and then used the larger size options on the pattern.
