Pattern: Adapted from an existing pair of machine knit gloves.

Yarn: Comfy by KnitPicks in Black

Needles: Size 2.25 mm double-point

Made For: My sister-in-law

Notes: These were the last pieces in the set. The gloves were a challenge for me. I was working from a pair of machine-knit gloves that fit over fleece inserts. The originals had been damaged and my sister-in-law was looking for a replacement… she didn’t want to toss her favorite pair of gloves just because of a few holes.

I haven’t really knit very many gloves, so I didn’t have the experience I would have liked to have when it came to building the pattern for these. I did my best to match the gauge of the existing gloves, but slight variation meant adjusting stitch counts and doing lots of measuring along the way.

In the end, I was left feeling very accomplished and more confident in my knitting abilities. I ended up with a pair of gloves that very closely matched the originals, but with a few new details that made them unique. I had fun adapting my Embossed Scarf pattern stitches into the gloves and hat. My sister-in-law really seemed to like the results, too. I only wish I had remembered to take a picture of her wearing the stuff!

Be sure to see the hat and scarf, too!
