Personal Experience: I was contacted by Tools4Wisdom and offered an opportunity to try out one of their new mommy planners. I thought I stayed fairly well organized using a digital calendar system, but I thought that the planners by Tools4Wisdom offered something unique and I was curious if it would change my organization style in any way.
The planner is a generous 11×8″. The cover is a heavy, transparent, plastic sheet with a cardstock weight paper cover underneath. The back cover is the same construction. The printing is dark and clear. You can actually feel it when you run your hand across the page. (Is it weird that I notice and appreciate things like that? LOL) The pages are thick enough that my pencil did not create noticeable ridges on the opposite side of the paper. My everyday ink pen did not show through the paper to the backside, but my gel pen did leak through a bit. I find it best to fill in planners with pencil anyway… much easier to erase when adjustments need to be made! The whole book can be laid out flat to display two pages or opened completely to display one page. It makes it so easy to fill in your day’s goals and schedule when you don’t have to fight the book to stay open.
Being well-made enough to last the whole year is just the start of what this planner offers. It’s chock-full of pages that will guide you through setting goals for you and your family. I love the options to lay out your plans for achieving goals for the year. It also starts each month with a section for goal setting just for that month. It doesn’t stop there! Each week has a place for you to list both personal and family goals.
These features have been so wonderful for me! It made me sit down and think about what I would like to accomplish this year. Then I was able to break each goal down into smaller, more manageable goals that didn’t seem quite so daunting. I look back to those goals each week as I plan out my family’s activities for the week. We are getting more done in our day than ever and finding more time to do the things we love. I never thought that simply having a way to organize my ideas and goals could be so life-changing!
Beyond the goal setting, the planner also includes the kind of things you would expect from a planner including a daily hour-by-hour schedule. Each week is laid out across two pages of the planner. I like that the weekends get as much attention as weekdays. (The scaling down of weekend space is often an irritation of mine with other planners.) There is plenty of room for your tasks on most days. I did I have a few times I wished that the hours were broken down into half-hour segments or that I had just a little more room to write. At the bottom of the weekly pages you will find a menu planner complete with a spot for a grocery list and an opportunity to set daily goals for you, your spouse, and the kids. Somehow, they even found room for you to jot down some notes, too! There’s a spot at the bottom of each weekly and monthly page as well as a whole section in the rear of the planner.
Overall, I’m very impressed with the planner. It really has changed the way we live our day to day life. There were just a few things I would change. They do sell these on a rotating calendar (order in June and your calendar starts and ends in June), but I wish they opted for a fill in your own dates format or made it an option. I would have liked the weekly calendar to have just a hair more space for hourly appointments and tasks. I flipped back and forth a lot between the current week and my goal planning pages, so I wish they included an easy way to find your spot… there are a lot of pages in this planner for something that is actually quite thin. I tied a length of ribbon to the spiral binder to create a bookmark.
Pros: Not only a great daily planner, but a strong focus on setting and achieving goals of all sizes. Spiral bound so it lays flat. Plenty of room the majority of the time.
Cons: Dates and times are already printed. Occasionally wished some fill-in areas had more space. Needs a bookmark.
