Personal Experience: This review is a little different from my usual, because I’m not the one that used the product. Lugz provided my husband with a complimentary pair of Drifter Steel Toe boots for the purpose of this review. The opinions below are his… I am just translating his words into my style. 🙂
The boots themselves are very well-constructed… on par with the more expensive steel-toe boots Lord Tyrneathem has purchased in the past. The classic military styling appealed to him. The leather upper is neatly stitched and thick. The padding on the tongue and collar added extra comfort in places where he most experienced pressure. The sole has, so far, been securely attached to the upper with no obvious signs of wear. The slip-resistant bottom has been very handy in the moist environment of my husband’s job.
Ordinarily, Lord Tyrneathem prefers a higher ankle on his boots, but he has found this height gives him the support his ankle needs while allowing for flexibility he didn’t always have with other styles. After the initial couple of days to “break them in,” he has found them very comfortable to wear.
The only issue he has experienced so far is with the laces, but this is a common problem for my husband and others who like their laces very tight. The laces broke after only two weeks of use. My advice to makers of all workboots would be to consider using a stronger lace. According to Lord Tyrneathem, the laces used are essentially 550 cord. This type of cord is not intended for constant rubbing, which is what inevitably happens when laces are tied and tightened. These basic laces will usually last him an average of a few weeks to two months. He typically replaces his laces with “hiking laces” and they will last him well over a year.
Now, with items such as shoes, there can be things that crop up later on that we didn’t come across initially. If necessary, I will edit this post with any updates at that time.
Overall, my husband is very happy with his Drifter Steel Toe Boots. At this time, he says that he would go back to Lugz to buy future pairs. At just $84.99 and with frequent promotions available, they are a premium product at a bargain price! They would make a great gift for the hard-working man in your life.
Pros: High quality product at very reasonable prices. Strong, well-made, and comfortable.
Cons: Laces break easily, but this is a common problem for my husband.
