Personal Experience: I have worked with Lugz before with amazing results, so putting them in this year’s gift guide was a no-brainer. Getting the chance to try their newest men’s boot was the icing on the Christmas cookies! My husband is a pretty low-key type… takes a lot to get him excited about things like shoes… but he still tells people about how well his Drifter Steel Toes are holding up. I do too! Those boots cost half of what his other work boots averaged and they have outlasted every pair! So getting the chance to try another boot had him watching for packages to arrive. ;)

We chose the Charcoal/ Gray color. Most of his shoes are the typical black or white boots and sneakers, so it was nice to have a neutral option that steps outside his (shoe) box a little. The color combo is so classic (a bit lighter than it appears in my photos) and yet very modern in a boot style that is right for all ages of men. It’s just a great looking boot! I have to say that I was also surprised how lightweight the package was for a pair of men’s boots. As a person who once wore work boots every day at work, I can appreciate the value of a lightweight yet sturdy boot.

Ross had them on already on the day they arrived. He’s a brave man… he broke them in on our major grocery shopping trip, which is a four store tour of local grocery and club stores that can take hours. When I asked him how his feet were feeling at the end of the day he said, “Like I was wearing my sneakers.” I guess that memory foam liner is not just for show! It probably won’t come as a surprise that these have now replaced my husband’s sneakers as his everyday shoe. They look great with his jeans, keep his feet comfortable, and add some height to his already tall frame. (I’m going to have to order myself a pair of the Shifters for women to keep up!)

The upper is a suede-like Thermabuck that has proven to be very effective at wicking away moisture. Ross marveled over the way that they looked completely dry even after he had been out raking a yard full of very wet leaves on a dewy lawn. Any mud or debris that remained on the boot just brushed away with a sweep of his glove. (The picture above was taken after this day in the mud.) The slip-resistant sole also helped keep him on his feet as he trudged through puddles and slick spots on the deck and driveway. Adding a steel toe to these Empire WR boots would give Ross the one pair of boots that could top his Drifter Steel Toes for work. Maybe something for Lugz to consider? ;)

These are as well-made and sturdy as I have come to expect from Lugz. I still can’t believe how reasonable these prices are for such great quality. I know my husband feels the same, because he’s been recommending these and the Drifters to anyone who will listen. These would make a great gift for the teen or man in your life!

Pros: Well-made boot with classic style and memory foam comfort. Great for everyday wear or as a comfortable work boot. Easy to clean and wicks away moisture.

Cons: Can’t think of one… except that I don’t have a pair myself!
