oldtimecandylogoCompany Bio: Karen and Donny Ray have a lot of fun eating and selling the candy we all ate as kids. Sometimes they are asked how they can sell 50 year old candy. It brings a smile and they respond, “Our candy is fresh from the manufacturer. We don’t make the candy, we tracked down the manufacturers who are still in the business and then sell their candy on the internet. We package and ship our candy every day so it gets into your hands (and mouths) quickly.” Sounds good to us!

Product Details: The decade candy assortment is jammed with over 70 pieces of candy, 60 different candies with some duplicates. The box measures 12 x 9 x 3 inches. Assortments are available with popular candies from the 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s or all decades.

MSRP: $34.99 for the 4-lb box

Personal Experience: I think there are very few of us that don’t have memories of favorite candies and treats from our childhood. I’m actually old enough to remember the last days of shops that sold “penny candy” and the joy of selecting flavored candy sticks, individual candies, and strips of candy buttons from big glass jars. Discovering Old Time Candy was like rediscovering those days.

The people behind Old Time Candy have found companies that still make some of those favorite treats that we all thought were lost. You can choose candies by decade, flavor, and occasion. You can buy in bulk or individually. It’s like a digital version of those candy shop days gone by!

I received one of their popular sampler-style boxes called the Decade Box. With some strong prompting from my mom, we chose to try the 60’s box. This sampler contains selection like 5th Avenue, Atomic Fire Balls, Banana Splits, BB Bats, Bit-O-Honey, Bonomo’s Turkish Taffy, Boston Baked Beans, Bubble Gum Cigars, Maple Bun, and Candy Buttons on paper tape. The actual contents vary slightly, but trust me… you will love the selection. Our box was loaded with treats that brought back memories for all of us and it gave my son a chance to try popular favorites like lollies, candy buttons, and Necco wafers. We were all like… well… kids in a candy store!

They have a lot of business practices to be admired in today’s world. They don’t have a minimum order requirement. They ship at actual cost… none of those expensive “handling” charges. Orders typically ship the next day. They ship with a coolant pack in warmer weather. They will even do hand-written notes for gifts!

Be sure to check them out for great gift ideas. They even have holiday packaging available including this decade box and chocolate lovers boxes. If you have a friend or loved one with a sweet tooth and memories of their youth, then you have a great gift waiting at your fingertips.

Pros: Great selection of classic favorites. Giftable packaging. Order by the piece or in bulk.

Cons: Where’s the 10-pound box? ;)

  3. What an amazing concept. My sister and cousins and I used to look forward to our after Sunday dinner walk with our grandma. She used to take us to the corner store and we picked out our penny candies. I know I am aging myself, but I saw a lot of candies on that site that I haven’t seen in ages. Sure made me smile while thinking of the memories.
