Personal Experience: At a time of year when many are seeking great gifts for co-workers, teachers, and to stuff a few stockings I reached out to a company that provides just the type of product to fit all those categories. With products ranging from auto-sealing kids’ water bottles to stylish spill-proof mugs, Contigo has gifts that those hard to buy types on your list will appreciate. They sent me one of their AUTOSEAL® Cortland Water Bottle. I put this in Xander’s hands to thoroughly test…

First, my mom moment. I loved several of the features of this water bottle before  even handed it off to Xander. It’s a very generous 24 ounce size, but it doesn’t feel unnecessarily bulky. It’s sized in a way that it is narrow enough to fit into most cup holders… whether in the car or a stroller… but kept short enough to be comfortable to use. It has a nifty patented AUTOSEAL® feature that is great to keep away the spills that inevitably happen with kids and liquids. It actually automatically closes up between sips! There is a convenient clip built into the top that doubles as a handle. We can clip it on his backpack or my purse. The handle makes it even easier for Xander to carry around. There is a flip-open lid that keeps out the dirt. Oh, and it’s all top shelf dishwasher safe!

It took Xander a few days to catch on to the coordination required to push the button while drinking. For an adult or older child, this would probably be much more intuitive. The button is on the back side of the bottle and you push it with your fingers as you drink. I almost think that using the thumb press style like they did with the West Loop (reviewed yesterday) would have been a little more effective. It didn’t slow him down for long, though… he pretty much refuses to drink water from anything but his Cortland bottle now. I need to get more so we can cycle them through the dishwasher. ;)

The beverages… mostly water… that we have put in it stay tasting fresh and clean. They use a BPA free Tritan material that keeps away those nasty plastic-y flavors that can make some water bottles so gross to use. It’s also so easy to clean. On top of being dishwasher safe, they designed the lid in a way that you can simply push on the indicate spot and it opens up the area that seals. You can get right in there and clean away those bits of juice and keep away the mold that creeps into other bottles that don’t have this convenient feature. I’ve tossed away many water bottles because they’d get gross in places I just couldn’t reach to clean properly. It mas me feel safer knowing my son is drinking from a water bottle that has so many great, healthy features.

Pros: Generous size. Spill-proof, auto-sealing pening that is great for kids and adults on the go.

Cons: None.
