Details: “Crane USA was founded in 2005 on the belief that design is an attitude and the home is a personal expression of an individual’s lifestyle. We also realize that more than ever before people are looking to improve their health and their home environment. Crane is a company that recognizes these health concerns and people’s individual lifestyles.
While humidifiers, air purifiers, and space heaters are some of the best ways to control indoor air pollutants and heating, most people don’t break into a smile about these traditionally unexciting humidity, air quality, and heating solutions. Here at Crane, we are looking to change that.
Since 2005, Crane USA has taken the lead in putting the “fun” into cool mist humidifiers, air purifiers, and space heating by following our mantra: design for better living. Our products are functional and efficient at fulfilling your home improvement needs while communicating an appreciation for elegant design. Furthermore, our unique sense of design and unwavering commitment to quality allows us to continue to create our own distinctive interpretation of humidity, air quality, and heating solutions while remaining a step ahead of the crowd.”

Personal Experience: Crane gave me the opportunity to choose one of their humidifiers. I chose the Drop Shape humidifier in white, because I liked the sleek, modern style and I thought it would work well in any room that I would use it in. (Be sure to also check out their Adorable Animals humidifiers… so cute!)
My humidifier arrived quickly and it was very easy to set up. Filling the tank was much easier than with other units that I have used. It rested on its top within my sink and there were no filters or gadgets to work around… simply unscrew the cap, fill, and re-cap. I didn’t even have to worry about fill lines! The sealing cap also kept water from getting all over when transporting the tank to the base.
The trickiest part was finding a place for it to be put to work. You need a water-resistant, elevated surface. You can’t set it directly on the floor… it will not be as effective and it gets the surrounding carpet or flooring wet. (Ahem… I learned this the hard way because I didn’t read the directions.) We ended up placing it on my son’s dresser the bulk of the time. It has a protected finish and it was at a great location to give him the most benefits.
You can see the humidifier at work with the awesome cool mist effect. The mist is completely safe to touch. There is no heat. In fact, it’s slightly chilled. The humidifier operates incredibly quietly. There is absolutely no sound when I turn it on. Every humidifier I have used claimed to be quiet… but this is the first that really was! The cone on top allows you to direct the mist without moving the humidifier itself. The auto shut-off feature is one of my favorites. I occasionally forgot to refill before we headed off to bed or headed out for the day and it was great to know it would shut itself off. The green light at the base turns red when it’s empty. Overall, great design with well thought out features.
So, you know it works great, but why do you want a cool mist humidifier? Well, because they work. Not good enough of an answer, eh? Alright, alright… I guess I’ll have to get all technical. 😛
If you have a child, you are probably well aware that the average little one is suffering through about six to eight respiratory infections of some form every year. That’s a whole lot of yucky for your poor little kiddo to deal with and with the risk of overdose to kids under six, we need to avoid cold medications. So what’s a parent to do?
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends three things for treating cold and flu symptoms in children: a cool mist humidifier, saline nasal solution, and a nasal aspirator (some may be more familiar with the bulb syringe). A humidifier eases many common cold concerns including loosen ingnasal congestion, easing dry coughs, soothing itchy dry skin (also great for kids with eczema!), moistens chapped lips, and prevents nose bleeds.
A cool mist humidifier is preferred over a warm mist because it does not boil the water. Ultrasonic humidifiers, like the Crane Drop Shape humidifier, generate a cool mist when a thin film of water is passed over a rapidly vibrating transducer. The vibration breaks the water up into tiny droplets and emits a whisper quiet cool mist.
Overall, I highly recommend the Crane Drop Shape Cool Mist Humidifier. I actually intend to buy more of them for our house… at least one for each bedroom. Our house is normally very dry in the winter and this year has been much easier on all of us… colds or not… with the extra humidity. This would also make a great gift for an expectant mom. They come in Adorable Animals shapes that would be a perfect addition to the nursery.
Pros: Whisper quiet, effective, and stylish. Easy to use and maintain.
Cons: The only negative I can come up with is just an aesthetic thing… more colors, please!
