I know that every other day we get new advice on being a parent and keeping our family healthy. For instance, did you know that you’re not supposed to pick up your kids by their hands, even playing with them? Apparently it can damage their bodies but it never did me any harm. Let’s face it, we’re living in an age where to play with conkers kids need safety goggles. So I’m not going to talk about how to keep your kids safe. As far as I’m concerned, you don’t need any advice on that. Search Google for kids safety tips and you’ll find hundreds of paranoid articles. Instead, I’m going to offer you some advice on how to keep your kids fit and healthy.

But not just your kids because you should be thinking of all members of your family. It’s all very well to say your kids exercise regularly and eat properly. But if you’re still gorging yourself on junk food and sitting on the sofa, you’re not doing enough. So let’s get started with a tip I think is going to help the girls get in the mood for exercise.

Well, not just the girls of course. We all want to look our best when we exercise. None of us want to be a in a gym feeling and looking like Jabba the Hut. Buying the right exercise clothes and accessories will help make you want to keep fit and exercise more regularly. The type of clothes and accessories you buy are your choice. But I recommend you think about buying some shorts, jogging bottoms, a tank top. And girls, you may also want to think about getting a sports bra. Particularly if you’re quite well endowed in the upper region. Otherwise, they can become a bit of a bother when exercising. You might also want to think about getting some sweatbands.

Sweatbands are both fashionable and practical. You can get them in neon colours that look awesome, and you don’t have to buy expensive ones. Why buy ones from the high street when sudora.com sweatbands are so much cheaper? They’re just as strong, tough and look great. Plus you can buy some for the whole family without spending a fortune

A Home Gym

Remember, I mentioned heading to the gym. Well, there’s good news on that front because you don’t have to go to the gym at all. I think it’s true to say that this is one of the things that puts people off getting fit. They think to get fit they have to head for the gym and work out in front of people that look like Greek gods. While I must admit there are benefits to gym exercise like having someone pushing you to keep going, I do agree. It can be annoying to exercise with people who are at a far higher level. The solution of course is to work out at home and to do that you’ll need to setup a home gym.

I suggest you buy some second-hand exercise equipment off a site like eBay if you want to keep costs low. That way, you won’t be spending a fortune, and you will have everything you need for a great workout.

Again the equipment you buy will depend on what exercises you’re going to be doing. If you’re looking to build up some muscle mass, then try to get some weights. Just be careful that you don’t lift too much too fast. Some are quite deceptive and look small while being incredibly heavy. Start off at the light end of the scale and work your way up.

If you want to buy something kids can use as well, you could buy a treadmill or an exercise bike. It’s important that you don’t let your kids use weights if they are under fifteen. This can stunt their growth. If your children do want to try weightlifting it’s best to wait until they have gone through puberty.

An extra tip is to set up some speakers in the room where you have the gym equipment. Blast some music while you’re exercising and you will find you can do more for longer. One of the things that put me off the gym is the awful dance music that they have playing. If you’re exercising at home, you can choose your own tunes.

Getting The Kids Involved

I think there are two ways you can get your children excited and interested in sports. Either you can encourage them to take part in more sports at school. This is a good idea as it allows them to make new friends and connections. It also helps them learn team building schools and will certainly boost their social development. But, you shouldn’t pick a sport for them. Let them pick it for themselves and remember to encourage them to take part. But don’t force it. While you do want your kids to be active, you don’t want them to resent you for it. It is true that some kids just aren’t cut out for the competitive nature of school sports.

Or, you can play sports and exercise more with them yourself. This is probably a better solution if you have young children. It’s far easier to get them interested in completing activities with their parents.

You might also want to mix the two together. It’s a cliche but you could always coach one of your kids teams at school. That way they’ll be exercising with you and you’ll get a chance to bond with your children on another level.

Eat Right

I’ve spent a lot of time talking about exercising on this post, but you need to eat healthy as well. Otherwise, you will find all that exercise was rather pointless. You won’t lose weight, but you might well put it on. To avoid this make sure that you and your family are eating a healthy diet. You should include lots of fruit and vegetables in your meals and try to limit the junk. I recommend you drink a maximum of one fizzy drink per day and eat one dessert.

If you take this advice on board, you’ll be able to keep yourself and your family healthy with no trouble at all. Have fun!
