Mini Checks

Notes: The Mini Checks stitch is a great all over pattern for pretty much any place where you would use stockinette. It is a variation on the seed stitch.

Stitch Count: Multiple of 8 stitches.

Written Instructions:

  • Rows 1 & 5 (RS): Knit.
  • Row 2: *P6, k2; rep from * to end.
  • Rows 3 & 7: Knit all knit stitches and purl all purl stitches.
  • Row 4: Purl.
  • Row 6: P2, *k2, p6; rep from * to last 6 sts, k2, p4.
  • Row 8: Purl.
  • Repeat rows 1 through 8 to desired length.


  1. I think this is just a lovely stitch. I really like the look of the yarn that you have pictured here. Do you know what kind it is and the size needles that you used? Thanks!

    • It is basic white Peaches and Creme cotton yarn. You can find it at most craft stores and even Walmart. It’s a nice soft, durable yarn. I primarily use it for dishcloths, but I’ve also used it to make afghans.

      I use a size 7 knitting needle for all knit swatches.
