I’m apparently a glutton for punishment, but I wanted to make my mom something for her birthday. I struggled a bit the last time I used this Mandala yarn. I knew my mom would like the colors (it’s called Unicorn) and her plain white coat could use some color. 🙂 I have to have this done by Sunday the 14th because that is her birthday and she’ll be over for dinner. Completely possible… it’s a quick knit. I decided to alter my Embossed Knit Scarf pattern a bit and eliminate the garter stitch border.
I’m making quick progress on this one! I’m happy with the decision to not do a border… I like the way it flows. We have a very busy weekend coming up, so I am getting as much time in during the week as I can. I’ve had only one break in the yarn this time and it was a good distance into the scarf (between the pink and blue near my needles). This cake of yarn feels even softer than the last one and it is a little bit fuzzy. I might actually give this yarn more of a chance… a blanket, perhaps? I am confident I can finish this in time for Mom’s birthday.
And we’re done! I did end up breaking the yarn twice myself because the second stretches of blue and pink were getting so long. I wanted the stripes to still feel random but not quite so long. I’m really happy with the end result, though I would have preferred another bit of white instead of the purple. I used almost every bit of the yarn to get this to a good length. To be fair, it is a very wide scarf. There is likely to be plenty of yarn here for any type of scarf project. I’m feeling even more like I would like to try this in blanket size.
Mom looked really happy when she opened it and she had it on almost immediately. I think it was a win. 🙂 Unlike Xander, she has not requested a hat to match. Whew! 😉
