{Monday Musings} Reading in Summer

musingmondays41Musing Mondays from Should Be Reading asks you to muse about one of the following each week…

• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).
• What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on? Tell us about it!
• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.
• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!
• Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!

Please feel free to leave a comment with either the link to your own Monday Musings post, or share your answer in a comment here and/or at Should Be Reading. Thanks!

My Answer

Every summer I see the lists of summer reads, beach-worthy books, and the like… and every summer I wonder why so many people enjoy reading at the beach. It has just never been my thing. Reading in glaring sun is difficult on my eyes and I don’t hang out at the beach to hide under an umbrella! Plus, if I’m at the beach I’m probably working on a tan and I wouldn’t want the shadow of a book messing up my tan. Hah… that sounds so vain! To be honest, I am at a beach very infrequently and I tan just slightly more often.

I prefer to do my reading before bed as a way to wind down from the day… I’ll leave the summer days for playtime.

Do you like to read at the beach? What are some of your favorite summer reads?

  1. Any Crafting Diy and Cooking books seem to be my latest crave as for reading habits a couch or my bed do just fine as long as there’s snack involved hehe ;)

    • Hehe… what is it with reading and snacking? I swear that food magically appears alongside me when I’m reading. As much as I insist that I don’t want to get food on my book (or Kindle), it still ends up next to me. I can also drink hot cocoa on even the hottest days if I’m reading. Weird?

      • I don’t know but not the same without a snack that’s for sure :)
