Oh wow… so much has happened while I spaced out. My family and behind the scenes things with this site have been keeping me so busy that I haven’t been able to keep up as well as I’d have liked. I’ve been sticking well to the plan, though it got a bit sketchy when my food supply began to run low. I quickly recovered by creating some of my own meals using what I’ve learned. A few lows, but overall I’ve been very good and finding this so much easier to stick to than other plans… ordinarily busy times would mean mindless snacking at the computer or grabbing a candy bar on the go.
My official weigh-in was today. I’m now down over 13 pounds since joining Nutrisystem (24 pounds overall)! I wish I could truly explain how amazing this is. I’m sure many of you can relate. I’ve struggled so much with losing even a single pound since gaining so much so quickly while on prednisone after a burn injury. In the last ten years since that injury, I have only gained except for two instances. I had a brief success with green coffee extract… and it took me far more time to lose that first few pounds than it has to lose this 13+. I also temporarily lost 40 pounds while pregnant only to gain it back over the past few years. Trust me… pregnancy is not the ideal way to lose a few pounds. It comes with a life-altering side effect that you have to put through college! 😀
As I mentioned, I reached the end of the first month’s shipment of food. The new shipment arrived just in time to start the new week… the shelf food came on Friday and the frozen on Saturday. The new month’s selections were almost identical to last month. I was a bit disappointed to discover that… it would have been wonderful to share some new variety with you all.
I did try the suggestion to make the Cheese Tortellini into a soup by adding broth. I used a “chicken flavor” vegetarian broth with 0 calories. I also added in one cup of mixed veggies. I put it all in my lunch crock until dinnertime. It was a big improvement texturally and added a lot of flavor. It would be great for a rainy, cool day.
I had two dinners that were not pre-made Nutrisystem meals. The first was a chicken wrap made using the Tyson Grilled and Ready Chicken Breast Strips and a Mission Whole Grain Tortilla. With some lettuce, tomato, and a dash of Walden Farms Calorie-Free Ranch and bacon, it was a very satisfying light meal on a hot day. For Mother’s Day we went out to dinner at a favorite restaurant. I ordered a beef tenderloin and baked potato from their light menu. They included a strawberry shortcake dessert for all moms… and I made my husband share. (Took a whole lot of arm twisting. lol) Even on a special day and with a splurge dessert, I still stayed within my calorie range.
I’ve switched over to tracking my foods through the MyFitnessPal app. I am still following the Nutrisystem plan, but I find their food tracking (both on site and mobile app) is very cumbersome. It lacks a lot of common foods in the database and it is a multi-step process to change the simplest of things (like serving size). MyFitnessPal has the great majority of the Nutrisystem items in their database and even allows for barcode scanning. If I’m going to stick to consistent tracking, I need a simpler system… and MyFitnessPal fits that need. I hope that Nutrisystem listens to their customers and makes some adjustments to their tracking systems.
I will continue to keep you updated as I continue into month two!
