Day 30. Not one of my greatest days. I’ll spare you the gory details, but let’s just say that my skills of chocolate resistance do not hold out well during a particular day or two of each month. 😛 I wasn’t feeling well from the night before until well into the evening, so I didn’t really eat as much as I typically should… well, not in the early part of the day. The Prince got a good portion of my meals today because I just wasn’t hungry and he was more than willing to step in. Later on I binged a bit, though.


That picture above represents my healthier choices and what I spent the better part of my day doing. It was a lazy sick day, of sorts.

I started out with a really basic breakfast and ate only because I knew I should. The Turkey Ham & Cheese Omelet did not do me any favors today. The egg tasted bland and the filling seemed slimy. I’ve eaten this twice before and enjoyed it, so I’m sure it was just because I was feeling sickly. Even the V8 tasted off to me today.

I still wasn’t hungry by my usual lunch time, so I did one of the Nutrisystem desserts instead. The Cheese Puffs are best described as cheese colored puffs. 😛 They had a satisfying crispiness and crunch to them, but they were completely flavorless. Though I’ll be honest that today was not a great day for me to be a fair judge of flavors, I do have to say that even my mini garbage disposal of a son only ate a couple. I paired it with a string cheese.

I did the Cheese Tortellini for lunch. This is one of those dishes that I’m on the fence about. It has a decent flavor, but there is a grainy type texture to it. I have come across a few recipes that combine this with veggies and chicken broth in the lunch crock to make a tortellini soup. Many claim it helps with the texture, too. I will have to try that with my remaining one.

I had pizza planned for dinner, but ended up giving in to my craving for a potato and lots of protein. I baked two tiny red potatoes… the kind usually cooked whole in butter. Then I topped it with a broken up veggie burger, light cheddar cheese, and a tablespoon of the lean bacon pieces. I surrounded it with a double serving of broccoli. Can you tell I was finally getting hungry at this point? I didn’t need any butter or seasonings. It tasted sooooo good. It’s crazy how hungry I was for potato. I know they are not really a smart carb choice, but I think I did this in a healthier way than I would typically make a “loaded” potato. ‘

Later on, once my son and husband had gone to bed, I grabbed one of my husband’s frozen candy bars out of the freezer. I was so desperate for chocolate and my Nutrisystem stock is getting very low. In a pathetic scene of desperation, I sat and gnawed on that frozen Snickers. I realized when I was done that I really need to keep a healthier chocolate option on hand for these moments of willpower breakdown.

I wasn’t done. Sometime after midnight I got up from knitting in bed to hit the fridge again. I ended up snacking on two cheese sticks and a big glass of V8.

Amazingly… and probably because I ate so little earlier in the day… I came in under my calories for the day. I wish my meals had been better balanced, but at least I am showing some control in my “monthly cravings.” 😀

Today’s menu consisted of 1374 calories, 105 grams protein, and 46 grams of fat.
