Our family loves to do fun crafts that work for all ages. The Orb Factory craft kits have proven a great fit for our family over and over again. My son, nieces, mom, and I had a chance to try the new Plushcraft Patch Studio from Orb Factory.

The Patch Studio uses the same basic fabric punch technique as other Plushcraft kits. You use a tool to push little color-coded fabric squares into a design. You go from a flat design to a fluffy and fun creation.

The Plushcraft Patch Studio comes with a variety of patches, a punch tool, a roller, a patch station, and LOTS of little fabric squares. You place your bare patch in the station and punch in the fabric. (Two of the shades of pink were quite close, so it was a little hard to sort them in low light.) When you are done, you carefully attach the patch to an adhesive backing. There is lots of rolling to seal the pieces together and then you pop out your patch and pinch the edges closed.

We had a little trouble with the tool for pushing in the fabric pieces. It is smaller than in other PlushCraft kits… which makes sense because the pieces and final projects are smaller… and I think this made it less sturdy. It could be a little harder to find the little precut holes for the fabric and the tool got bent pretty easily. Luckily, it could be bent back just as easily. 😉

You get several patches including a cat, a dog, a heart, and a panda. The panda was definitely a favorite among the group. Having a variety of patches means this project will last beyond one sitting, which is great. I don’t know if they have plans to do so, but this would be a great product to build expansion kits on. I know I would buy them!

My only real issue was the way the edges of the patch sealed. You attach an adhesive backing in the final step of the project and then use your fingers and the included roller to seal the edges. No matter how thoroughly I pressed and rolled, I never seemed to get the edges completely sealed. The patches still hold together, but they can look a little unfinished.

Even with the edge issue, it was still a really fun project and you get adorable patches that can be used in a variety of ways. The patches are adhesive, but you could also add a few stitches to secure them more completely.

Pros: Fun for a variety of ages. Easy to do. Several projects in one. Great opportunity for expansion kits.

Cons: Patch edges look unfinished.
