Personal Experience: I was able to find CollageIt in the app store quickly and easily… though watch out you are getting CollageIt Free because there is another app with the same name. It was a fast and light download and I was ready to create collages in just moments.

One problem. I pretty much always have a large collection of photos of Xander and the cats on my phone, but wouldn’t you know it… I had just cleared them all off! Time for an impromptu photo shoot.  :)

I can’t say that my subjects cooperated much. Even with some plying with treats, they acted like celebrities avoiding the paparazzi. With what photos I could get loaded up, I grabbed a seat and started creating.

013You have a choice of four basic mosaic styles to start with. I chose the Mosaic layout for this review. (You can click on this and future product thumbnails to see the full image.)

021Next you choose your images. There is even a notice at the bottom to tell me how many more you can select for the style you’ve chosen.

The app generates a beginning collage. From here, you have many edit options available for you. You can even change the collage style if you change your mind.

Moving around the photos can be done simply by clicking the circular arrows in the top center. You can also manually move them around by holding your fingertip on a photo and dragging it to a new spot.

You can also change the orientation and size of the collage. A drop-down menu is available on the upper right for this purpose. Just tap on your preferred option. I wish there were custom sizes and ratios available.

.

.

.

023The first button on the lower left allows you to add additional photos. The second button takes you to a page where you can choose the background color. There are numerous solid and gradient colors available to choose from. A custom color chooser for greater color selection and full customization would be great.

.

024The third button on the bottom gives you a chance to change the color and size of the frames around each photo. I do wish there was an option to choose between frame designs… hearts for Valentine’s Day, stars, decorative traditional frames… that sort of thing. It would really add a personal touch.

.

.

025The final button on the bottom is for adjusting the amount of space between each photo.

029Tapping on a photo gives you options to replace and edit the photo. A variety of different enhancements and effect are available for you. It’s a free version, so I don’t expect much and there’s a decent selection. Many would probably pay a little for a greater selection.

.

.

.

.

026For a little further customization, you can also pinch and zoom the individual photos to fit them as you’d like into the frame. This step can be a bit fiddly… especially if you have larger fingers.

.

.

.

.

023When you’re all done, just find the arrow button on the upper right. This takes you to a save screen where you can adjust the photo resolution and then share it to many common social networks, send it by email, or save it to you phone.

.

.

.

And we have my final CollageIt Free collage!

030

Pros: It’s FREE! Quick and easy collages in just minutes. A decent selection of customization options to make the collage your own.

Cons: Options are a bit limited, but that’s not uncommon for a free app.
