Did you know that honey is the only food that includes all the substances necessary to sustain life, including water? That is just one of the amazing facts I have learned recently thanks to an opportunity to review Golden Blossom Honey. It has given me a whole new appreciation for this golden-colored sweetener!
Golden Blossom sent me samples of both their namesake USA-sourced honey and the Brazil-sourced Organic White Forest Honey. I have been finding every excuse I can to use and eat honey to thoroughly test this honey out for you… and what a fun and flavor-filled couple of weeks it has been! I love how easy it is to substitute honey for sugar in a lot of our favorite recipes. Golden Blossom has a HUGE selection of recipes featuring honey including appetizers, beverages, salads, pastas, and more to get you started. (They have conversions on the FAQ page for your own recipes too.) My personal favorite, a recipe for Caramel Corn, is very similar to my own recipe but using honey instead. So good!
They also have an entire section of health and beauty recipes like this Ginger & Honey Citrus Sore Throat Home Treatment that will be great to have on hand in the coming cold and flu season!
4 tablespoons GOLDEN BLOSSOM HONEY
Juice of 1 large lemon
3 teaspoons vegetable oil
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
Directions: Mix all ingredients together in a small jar. Every hour, take 1 teaspoon in your mouth and gargle. Then swallow the remedy.
Both honeys are very smooth, clear, and great consistency. I personally found the Organic White Forest Honey to be sweeter than the Golden Blossom Honey. The US honey seemed just slightly thicker though. I preferred the organic honey for sweets like the caramel corn recipe I mentioned above. The Golden Blossom Honey was my favorite of the two. The blend of honeys gave this a rich flavor that worked well for so much. I particularly like it in my tea and when I made the Honey & Oatmeal Mask. My son absolutely loved when I made honey and peanut butter sandwiches… a great alternative to traditional fruit jams. It was a fun way to introduce honey into his diet so that he can begin experiencing the numerous health benefits too.
My only complaint is really more of a wish. The Organic White Forest Honey has a cap that helps reduce drips. It was very convenient for controlling the flow of the honey. I wish the Golden Blossom Honey had the same style of opening.
Overall, these are two great-tasting honeys that I am happy to have in my recipe repertoire. Golden Blossom’s recipe section and the awesome facts they share on the site have inspired me to add more honey into our diet.
Pros: Excellent flavor. Smooth and clear. Great health benefits. Wonderful selection of recipes.
Cons: Would love to see a cap redesign on the Golden Blossom Honey.
Unlike most brands, Golden Blossom Honey is a blend of pure honeys. Since 1921 they have been blending their exclusive, secret recipe combination of orange, sage buckwheat and extra white clover honeys. Three distinctively different varieties of honey – each one thick, rich and deliciously pure – blended to create the signature flavor of Golden Blossom Honey.
