Personal Experience: I was so excited when The Monster Factory agreed to send me a complimentary sample of their VW Camper Van tent. My excitement was topped tenfold by my son when he first saw it!
The VW Camper Van Red Kids Tent arrived in a surprisingly small and flat box.
I couldn’t believe that a decent-sized kid’s play tent could exist inside that flat little wheel bag. I was convinced someone had mis-packaged my tent. And, set up in two minutes? Yeah right! We’ll see…
I pulled the pieces from the wheel-shaped case. It contained the fabric of the tent, four collapsible poles, and the instructions. I simply needed to pop up the wire-framed fabric, connect the pole halves to each other to make four long poles, place the upper and lower poles into the appropriate slots, and we were ready to play. It really did take less than two minutes… and that was with a two cats “helping” me!
Holy cow! It was way bigger than I ever expected when I first saw that box. It was as big as our couch!
I could tell instantly that the fabric was sturdier than I typically see in kids’ play tents. The poles also had fully-stitched slots across the entire width of the tent on both front and back; top and bottom. These slots could also be covered and concealed with a Velcro flap. This was great for keeping my curious son from deconstructing the tent. The bottom of the tent is also fully fabric, so this would be amazing for use both inside and outside the house. I’m already imagining bringing it along for our yearly fireworks show as a place to hide away from the sun.
There are tons of little features that make this fun for kids (and adults). The first and most obvious is the fact that it looks like a 1965 VW Camper. Seriously… how cute is this?! The front has a window with a flap that can be rolled up to reveal a mesh window. There are also two door flaps. The main flap is over the “door” of the van. I love the way it was designed as a full-length flap. It allowed the flap to be laid up out of the way while still keeping the desired tent quality. The other flap is at the “trunk” of the van. This has been great for both kid and cats to crawl through the van like it is a tunnel. It was through this tunnel that I discovered you can fit an entire toddler mattress into the tent. It just fits width-wise with room to spare at each end lengthwise.
I don’t think a day has gone by since we received this that the Prince has not played with it. He loves it! He calls it his “bus.” As soon as he saw it, he had to grab his toy steering wheel and his favorite stuffed animals to take them for a drive on his bus.
The Prince and the cats have definitely used and abused this poor tent and it is no worse for it. It has been jumped on, slept in, crawled through, and driven around the house and yard… and there is not so much as a tear, run, or ripped seam. I am very impressed, because I have witnessed the destruction my son and cats can deliver on previous play tents.
The price is right on par with what I have typically paid for items like this. I think it will far outlast other play tents and for that reason I say it is an excellent value.
Pros: It’s an adorable, timeless tent that your kids will love and you won’t mind decorating your yard or house with. The quality is outstanding. It all packs away in a small, easy-to-stash carry bag. It really does take just minutes to set up. Great price!
Cons: You’re going to want one in your size… luckily The Monster Factory can deliver. 😉
