  12. My eldest is 7 years old, and she just started second grade at public school. Last year we tried to do online schooling, but the school we chose did not help with her learning as we had hoped, and we became frustrated with their lack of communication. It was becoming hard for us to get our daughter to school last year because I am mildly disabled and have a rare disorder that required a brain surgery last year, and now a second one in the next couple months. My husband is a disabled Army veteran whose original injury has worsened to the extent that he is facing spinal surgery once I recover from my second brain surgery and can take over primary care of our daughters (our second daughter is 3.) Since our eldest fears riding the school bus since she got on the wrong bus on the first day of first grade, and became very scared (although once the bus driver realized what happened, she was returned to school along with several other students who had done the same thing.) We also hoped by having her at home we could avoid me catching nearly every cold that went through her school. She said she wanted to stay home to be homeschooled, but besides the issue of my husband and I requiring serious surgeries soon, and not being up to it, we saw how much she missed her friends when we tried online schooling. She is now quite happy to be back at school!
