I’m not a perfect mom by any means. In fact, some days I feel like I have more failures than successes. Your kids will love watching and waiting for their seeds to grow into plants, and believe me, they will be extremely eager to consume the vegetables that they have worked so hard to grow.

Let the kids cook. When kids are able to take ownership in making their meals, they’re much more eager to try new things and enjoy the foods they are eating. Give the kids a say in the meal planning, and do the shopping together. Explore the different colors of the produce section, allowing the kids to purchase exotic fruits and vegetables to try. Under careful supervision, give the kids jobs to complete in the kitchen. My children love using a plastic knife to slice strawberries or using a peeler to peel carrots or potatoes. You’ll surely be getting the message across that cooking and eating healthy foods can be fun and interesting.

Make exercise fun. Exercise doesn’t have to be viewed as a chore. There are tons of activities that get the entire family moving without being a bore. Swimming is a great way to keep the family active for the day. Head to the local pool or beach, and your kids will come back exhausted from a day of fun-filled activity. Bike riding, roller skating, hiking, playing in the snow, and skiing are ways that our family enjoys being active while having fun!

Be a role model. One of the best ways to show your kids the importance of exercise is to do it yourself.
