I’m getting prompted through January. It’s a great time to learn a bit more about me and to share your own thoughts. I hope you are enjoying the ride. 🙂
A Time You Don’t Want to Forget
This is a great topic. I like the positivity of focusing on something I want to remember rather than dwelling on the things I would like to forget. It’s tough to narrow it down, though!
I guess Christmastime is still fresh in my mind and one thing that came to mind was a happy moment during tough times. I believe I may have told this story at one time, but it’s worth a repeat.
As I mentioned, our family was going through a tough spell. I was a bit too young at the time for me to recall the specifics, but I know we were putting effort into our traditions and doing our best to make it a good Christmas. We were all gathered in front of the big picture window in our living room. The tree was there and we were decorating.
Suddenly there was a clang of bells against the window. We all jumped and looked toward the noise. There, on the other side of the window, was Santa Claus. If this guy was wearing a costume, it was one of the best I have ever seen. He shouted out a “Merry Christmas”,” gave us a big smile, and waved. By the time we all recovered enough to wave back he was gone.
My dad went outside to try to find him… I guess to invite him in for cocoa and cookies.. but he had completely disappeared. The only tracks in the snow were dad’s and two footprints right where Santa had been standing.
We still talk about it about 30 years later. I have often wondered if my parents set it up or if those that knew the times were tough were trying to give us some light at a dark time, but either way, I never want to forget the magic of that moment in time.
What is a time you don’t want to forget?
