The perfect family home is probably subjective to a lot of people. Some might say it’s small and cozy, while others might say it’s large and modern. However, there are definitely certain elements of a perfect family home that most will agree on. The perfect family home will be suited to your lifestyle, not to mention as secure as possible to keep the people you love safe! Let’s take a look at a few things that make the perfect family home:

A Layout to Suit Your Lifestyle

The first thing you need to do is ensure there’s a layout to suit your lifestyle. If you have fully grown teenagers and barely any room, you’re probably going to run into some problems. Make sure you all have lots of room to make your way around the home easily and that nothing is getting in the way. If you all bump into things regularly, it’s time for a rejig.

Enough Square Feet Per Person

You may not have thought about it this way before, but each home should have enough square foot per person for everybody to be comfortable. This will vary, but as a rule, you should have at least 150square ft per person in a small, minimally decorated home. If you don’t have this, it could be time to move on or get rid of some stuff.

Alarms and Other Safety Features

You want to keep the people you love safe, so make sure you have alarms and other safety features. This includes fire alarms and burglar alarms. Don’t underestimate how important it is to have reinforced windows and doors either!

A Safe Neighborhood

Is your neighborhood safe? You should have a neighborhood watch, and keep up to date with things that go on in your area. Before you buy a family home, your main priority should be visiting the neighborhood at different times of the day so you know it’s safe.

No Serious Issues or Potential Issues

Make sure you’re aware of any potential issues with your home. For instance, some could be in a flood risk area. You definitely don’t want to move your family into a place like this! Make sure there aren’t already any serious issues either. Although you may be able to remedy some, such as termites, it can take some time to find termite control and sort the problem out. Some issues can be more hassle than they’re worth.

Amenities and Public Transport Nearby

Make sure you have everything you need nearby. What amenities are there? Will your family need public transport at times? Make sure you think about the future when your family is grown too.

Good Schools in the Area

Finally, if your kids are at school, having good schools in the area is a must. Read up on them and consider setting up a meeting with the principle before you decide!
